Southern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce Awards Student Scholarships

SLCCC - Sam BroomellThe Southern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce has awarded a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in both the Solanco and Lampeter-Strasburg school districts. The Solanco scholarship recipient is Samuel Broomell, while Matt Harnish was chosen to receive the Lampeter-Strasburg scholarship.

The scholarships are awarded annually to one student in each district who will pursue a career in business through post-secondary education, or by starting their own business. Samuel Broomell will attend Franklin & Marshall College where he will major in economics with perhaps a double major or minor in music, while Matt Harnish will study dairy science at Northeast Iowa Community College.

The Southern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce obtains funding for the scholarships through its annual Shredding Event. This year’s community Shredding Event was held Friday, June 3 at G.R. Mitchell Inc., on Beaver Valley Pike in Willow Street. At the Shredding Event each year, local businesses, organizations and residents are invited to bring their sensitive and confidential paper-based materials for shredding. All shredded material is recycled. Donations are encouraged and are used by the chamber of commerce to fund the annual college scholarships.
